We are proud to spotlight Chief George B. Turner of the Longboat Key Police Department, a dedicated leader with an impressive career spanning 47 years in law enforcement. Chief Turner began his journey in New York in 1976, where he served honorably for 24 years before relocating to Florida. After joining the Longboat Key Police Department in 2001 as a Patrol Captain, he later became the Chief of Police in Brooksville in 2007. Following his retirement in 2018, he returned to Longboat Key as Chief on April 30, 2021.
Chief Turner’s educational background includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from the State University of New York, along with specialized training such as the FBI National Academy. His diverse experiences, from running a property maintenance business to leading various police departments, have equipped him with invaluable skills in customer service, communication, and time management.
Under Chief Turner’s leadership, the Longboat Key Police Department achieved significant milestones, including receiving State of Florida Accreditation in February 2024. This accomplishment reflects the department’s commitment to high standards and professional excellence, having complied with 235 rigorous standards. Chief Turner played a vital role in this accreditation process, overseeing policy updates, equipment reviews, and security enhancements.
A passionate advocate for community policing, Chief Turner encourages his officers to build strong relationships with residents and businesses. He actively participates in community outreach and values the importance of positive interactions with citizens. His message to the community is clear: “We are committed to protecting Longboat Key’s unique quality of life for its citizens, visitors, and future residents by providing high-quality, professional police service.”
